I’m all for a little road trip to the coast, or a journey of a few hours to see a friend. I’m also quite partial to travelling long distances to a race track but the thing that really makes me tingle is a road trip of epic proportions.

I’ve driven 3000 miles around the USA; I drove 900 miles to return some cats to their owner (in one day); and I’m already planning Alaska to Florida.

The thing is, I don’t feel big road trips need to be about distance, and my upcoming road trip is about so much more than that. I’ve decided that it’s time to go big or go home. Texas here I come.

One of the biggest states in America coupled with a huge motorsport event and a fearsome V8 muscle car. I might not cover 3000 miles but this trip is going to be epic.

The Muscle

Anyone who has ever been exposed to anything I’ve done, will know I love muscle cars. The bigger, the more ostentatious, the better. That’s why I’m very excited to call a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z51 my companion for this trip.

Yes. I’m going to be roaring around Texas with a 6.2l V8 in front of me. Doing America right.

The Motorsport

F1 Austin Sunday - lap 1, T12-T13Formula One is still my area of expertise when it comes to motorsport and there’s something about the Austin Grand Prix that really calls to me. I’ll be honest, like all of F1, it’s bloody expensive and my bank account is straining a little thanks to this trip but I’m excited.

I haven’t seen any F1 since 2011 and I’m hoping being at a race will rekindle my love for the sport.

It might not be the most American form of racing to watch (I’m not against the idea of heading to a NASCAR or IndyCar race while I’m there, though…) but it is big!

The City

Pennybacker Bridge - Austin, TX #flickr12daysFor the majority of the trip we will be staying in Austin, with a brief stint in Houston to fulfil the geeky need to visit the Space Center.

Austin is full of food, music and interesting districts. For a portion of the trip we will be without our lovely steed (I can feel the impending heartache already) and that gives us the chance to bar crawl our way around the city, taking in the sights, discovering new bands and eating everything I can get my hands on.

hey cupcake! There are some places in the world that just call to you. Places you know will understand you. Austin is a city of food, music and culture, I can’t wait to drink it all in.

The Video

As I go I will be vlogging from my phone but I’ll also be filming plenty of footage to be turned into a short film. Standby for shots of cowboy boots; a Corvette shaking under the roar of its own power; ribs drenched in BBQ sauce; endless stretches of Texan tarmac; and a gleeful English girl completely overwhelmed by it all.

Get ready. Follow me on this adventure.
